Marcello "Salazar" Bergo NUMBER ONE GRAPPLER IN THE WORLD (No-Gi 2nd place in the WORLD) — World Grappling Championships, Switzerland, 2008
A BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU BLACK BELT under the celebrated Murilo Bustamante and Mario Sperry, Marcello has dedicated himself to and represented their Brazilian Top Team with major international success. Marcello has won the Brazilian and Rio
de Janeiro State Championships of Jiu Jitsu, the European Submission Wrestling Championship, and—three times—the Brazilian Circuit Championship of Submission Wrestling. He represented Brazil on their Olympic Free Style and Greco Roman Wrestling Teams. Three times he was the Brazilian National Champion of Greco Roman Wrestling; four times the Free |

times the Free Style Wrestling Champion. He was undefeated in MMA as an Amateur, and, as a Professional Fighter, he has lost only once— and avenged that loss in a rematch.
What is easy to lose in his list of accomplishments is Marcello’s good-natured humanity, his dedication to his students and team mates, the devotion he has for his wife and child, and his love of coaching. We are honored that Marcello has made a very deep, long term commitment to building Alive MMA, just as he has stood by and helped build the Brazilian Top Team. |

Carlos De Santiago
| LIKE MOST PEOPLE, Carlos started his fight training with traditional Martial Arts, learning Kenpo Karate from Torres Karate Fighting Team in Los Angeles, California. Fortunately, Mr.Torres was very much into the fight game and he encouraged Carlos to delve deeper into a more serious form of fighting: boxing. During Carlos’ commitment to boxing, he utilized the speed he developed from running track and cross country at UCLA where he was recognized as a standout decathalete. After suffering a five year lay off due to a broken ankle, he walked into Straight Blast Gym in Portland, Oregon, and came to realize that the fight game was |
 |
more than about reliance on physical attributes. He learned that it is more about understanding the dynamics of the human body, using leverage rather than strength, and most importantly, about creating community from individuals that share the same passion for a sport. A blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with a strong corporate management background, Carlos manages our gym in San Antonio, coaches boxing, heads up the running team and prides himself on creating community, camaraderie, and teamwork. |

Bill Bradley
BEFORE BECOMING THE OWNER of Powerteam Jiu Jitsu
and Fitness and founding Alive
Mixed Martial Arts, Bill Bradley successfully managed the Straight Blast Gym
International Headquarters in Portland, Oregon. At Straight Blast, Bill was
also a full time coach of Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu, MMA, Functional Self Defense,
and the Kids Classes. A well seasoned Purple Belt in BJJ under Matt Thornton,
Bill represented the team in BJJ, Submission Grappling, and Mixed Martial Arts,
retiring from |
 |
MMA at 39 as the top ranked Middleweight in the Full Contact
Fighting Federation. Prior to training at Straight Blast, and even prior to
the coining of the term “Mixed Martial Arts,” Bill combined his Judo background
(Black Belt through Michigan State University) with Boxing and traditional
martial arts to explore what he then called “Interdisciplinary Self Defense”
and taught in a collective he organized at Reed College. |
